Sausage-stuffed Loaf

Ingredients

- 1 lb ground sausage
- 1/2 cup chopped onion
- 1/4 cup chopped bell pepper
- 1 medium tomato, chopped
- 1 can chunky italian-style tomato sauce
- 1/2 teaspoon dried basil
- 1/2 teaspoon dried oregano
- 1/2 teaspoon sugar
- 1/4 teaspoon anise seed
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1/8 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1 loaf french bread
- 1/4-1/2 cup shredded parmesan cheese
- coarsely ground pepper
Recipe
- 1 in a skillet, cook sausage until no longer pink.
- 2 remove and set aside.
- 3 in the same skillet, cook onion and green pepper until tender, drain.
- 4 stir in tomato sauce, tomatoes and seasonings.
- 5 add meat to sauce.
- 6 cut a wedge out of top of bread about 2 inches wide and 3/4 way through the loaf.
- 7 fill loaf with meat sauce.
- 8 sprinkle with cheese and ground pepper.
- 9 wrap in heavy-duty foil.
- 10 bake at 400 degrees for 15 to 30 minutes or until heated through.
