Malay Meatballs

Ingredients

- 1 onion, finely chopped
- 4 green chilies (optional)
- 25 ml grated fresh gingerroot
- 4 garlic cloves, crushed
- oil
- 1 kg minced meat
- 3 ml turmeric
- 5 ml garam masala
- 25 ml lemon juice
- salt and pepper
- 1 onion, finely chopped
- 2 cardamom seeds
- 2 pieces cinnamon sticks
- 1 (410 g) can chopped tomatoes
Recipe
- 1 sauté the onion, chillies, ginger and garlic in a little oil till the onion is soft.
- 2 remove from the heat and cool.
- 3 add the mince and seasonings and mix.
- 4 shape the mixture into fairly small meatballs.
- 5 heat a little oil in a pan and fry the meatballs till brown on the outside about 2-3 minutes. remove from the pan.
- 6 for the sauce sauté the chopped onion in a little heated oil until soft about 5 minutes add the cardamom seeds and stick cinnamon and stir fry for about 1 minute.
- 7 add the chopped tomatoes and simmer gently.
- 8 add the meatballs a simmer till done, about 5 minutes.
