Sausage-stuffed Loaf

Total Time: 50 mins Preparation Time: 20 mins Cook Time: 30 mins

Ingredients

  • Servings: 6
  • 1 lb ground sausage
  • 1/2 cup chopped onion
  • 1/4 cup chopped bell pepper
  • 1 medium tomato, chopped
  • 1 can chunky italian-style tomato sauce
  • 1/2 teaspoon dried basil
  • 1/2 teaspoon dried oregano
  • 1/2 teaspoon sugar
  • 1/4 teaspoon anise seed
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/8 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 loaf french bread
  • 1/4-1/2 cup shredded parmesan cheese
  • coarsely ground pepper

Recipe

  • 1 in a skillet, cook sausage until no longer pink.
  • 2 remove and set aside.
  • 3 in the same skillet, cook onion and green pepper until tender, drain.
  • 4 stir in tomato sauce, tomatoes and seasonings.
  • 5 add meat to sauce.
  • 6 cut a wedge out of top of bread about 2 inches wide and 3/4 way through the loaf.
  • 7 fill loaf with meat sauce.
  • 8 sprinkle with cheese and ground pepper.
  • 9 wrap in heavy-duty foil.
  • 10 bake at 400 degrees for 15 to 30 minutes or until heated through.
