Sauerbraten Burgers

Ingredients

- 1/2 cup crushed gingersnaps (8 cookies)
- 1 (8 ounce) can tomato sauce
- 1/4 cup finely chopped onion
- 1/4 cup raisins (optional)
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1 lb ground beef
- 2 tablespoons brown sugar
- 2 tablespoons vinegar
- 2 tablespoons water
- 1 teaspoon prepared mustard
- pepper
- hot cooked noodles
Recipe
- 1 reserve 2 tbsp of the crushed gingersnaps.
- 2 combine remaining gingersnaps, 2 tbsp of the tomato sauce, onions, raisins, and salt.
- 3 add meat; mix well.
- 4 shaped into four 1.2 in thick patties.
- 5 brown in skillet; drain off fat.
- 6 combine remaining tomato sauce, sugar, vinegar, water, mustard and pepper.
- 7 pour over burgers.
- 8 cover; simmer for 10-15 minutes, spooning sauce over meat.
- 9 remove burgers.
- 10 stir the reserved 2 tbsp into sauce in skillet.
- 11 cook until bubbly.
- 12 return burgers to skillet; heat through.
- 13 serve with hot buttered noodles.
