Sauerbraten Burgers

Ingredients

  • Servings: 4
  • 1/2 cup crushed gingersnaps (8 cookies)
  • 1 (8 ounce) can tomato sauce
  • 1/4 cup finely chopped onion
  • 1/4 cup raisins (optional)
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 lb ground beef
  • 2 tablespoons brown sugar
  • 2 tablespoons vinegar
  • 2 tablespoons water
  • 1 teaspoon prepared mustard
  • pepper
  • hot cooked noodles

Recipe

  • 1 reserve 2 tbsp of the crushed gingersnaps.
  • 2 combine remaining gingersnaps, 2 tbsp of the tomato sauce, onions, raisins, and salt.
  • 3 add meat; mix well.
  • 4 shaped into four 1.2 in thick patties.
  • 5 brown in skillet; drain off fat.
  • 6 combine remaining tomato sauce, sugar, vinegar, water, mustard and pepper.
  • 7 pour over burgers.
  • 8 cover; simmer for 10-15 minutes, spooning sauce over meat.
  • 9 remove burgers.
  • 10 stir the reserved 2 tbsp into sauce in skillet.
  • 11 cook until bubbly.
  • 12 return burgers to skillet; heat through.
  • 13 serve with hot buttered noodles.
