Sauerkraut Hotdish

Total Time: 2 hrs Preparation Time: 30 mins Cook Time: 1 hr 30 mins

Ingredients

  • Servings: 6
  • 1 lb ground beef
  • 1/2 lb bacon, cut-up
  • 1 (16 ounce) can sauerkraut, drained
  • 1/2 teaspoon nutmeg
  • 2 cups mashed potatoes
  • 1/2 cup water
  • seasoned salt & pepper, to taste
  • 2 -3 tablespoons butter

Recipe

  • 1 place sauerkraut in a collander & rinse well -- set aside to drain.
  • 2 brown the ground beef & bacon together -- drain all but 1 t. fat.
  • 3 season the kraut to taste & add to meat mixture.
  • 4 add water & cover.
  • 5 simmer for 1 hour.
  • 6 place in a lightly buttered cassarole dish.
  • 7 top with mashed potatoes & dot with butter.
  • 8 bake in oven, uncovered for 1/2 hour @ 350°.
